You can't study the same target twice. It's nice, but it's diminishing returns; once you can 95% hit it doesn't matter anymore. It adds to damage too though. I haven't noticed the damage actual stack in practice, have seen the to hit stack in the log though. In the end, the targets are always dead before it matters.

I agree Ranger is bad if you don't get the companion, but we're assuming people are making intelligent choices. A ranger that selects companion bond is like a wizard with 12 Int and 18 Str, it's stupid and shouldn't be used as a basis for discussion. Pretty much any companion is better than sneak attack and studied target.
