Hi all! I recently just moved to South Lake Tahoe, and not a huge skier (due to multiple injuries LOL) but a HUGE hiker and excited to start hiking. Planning on going Saturday, I know it’s been a slow snow season and not as much snow as normal. But what are some great hiking spots for snowshoeing you’d recommend?To be frank, it's nearly impossible to fish tahoe without one. Assuming you're after macinaw, the charters will troll with flashers and corn. The fish are deep, often a couple hundred feet. There is some good shore and boat fishing out by cave rock. My suggestion would be to do a charter and cancel the boat if it's a rental without a fish ... The Tahoe is a lot bigger, a fullsize SUV, while the GX is a midsize. The GX is slightly bigger than a 4Runner for reference. Tahoe is more comfortable and has better tech, it's the best selling fullsize by a huge margin for a reason. As far as venturing out to other states goes, Ikon wins hands down imho. Whistler, Telluride and Abay are the only resorts on Epic that really interest me. South shore is best for Desolation and Mokelumne wilderness, north shore for Granite Chief Wilderness (Squaw valley area) If you want longer hikes (10+ miles) I’d suggest south shore. The difference will be in the way you are treated by law enforcement. If you don't mind the effort of installing chains, you'll be fine. You will be required to with fwd. An awd with snow tires usually will be allowed through without chains. Be aware the speed limit during chain control is 25mph for all vehicles. Palisades has way way way more challenging terrain available, including lots of true expert terrain. But the true beginner stuff is really just at high camp and the first venture area.
