I always recommend 2hf paladin, gaining greatswords as favoured weapons at level 3. generally strong with great survivability as well as built in abilities like ghost touch, fear immunity and deathblock.

Inquis is your best leveling build and decent at cap. If you dont have either, dont do ranged builds yet, save up for sharn, unlock inquis, then use inquis. Inquis is somewhat awkward to level from level 1 as most inquis builds use a mix of ranger, rogue and artificer levels. Monks have really good saves (use water stance for this) and get evasion (and improved evasion) so traps really won't be an issue. Strimtom has a pretty solid build on the matter, though you may want to do some tweaking.
